Pewter and Zinc Countertops

New decorative edge profile from Metallo
While we are still expanding our line of countertop profiles, we have dozens of inventive edges not seen anywhere else.

Pewter countertops, a signature design element in French cafes and bistros since the Renaissance, are making a noticeable renaissance of their own today, and for good reason. The luxurious look and feel of pewter, zinc, bronze, or other “living” alloy metals adds a classic “Old World” feel to the modern kitchen.

Metallo Arts is now offering hand-wrought zinc and pewter countertops that rival the masters from Continental Europe. We bring our many years of experience working with patterned metal to this new product, as well as a fine art sensibility and an understanding of how to take kitchen décor into the realm of classical art.

We bring the same attention to detail and custom philosophy to all of our products, from the Kitchens by Metallo line of cabinetry and appliances to these new metal countertops. With hundreds of decorative bandings to choose from and finishes ranging from shop patinas to painted lips, Metallo Arts clients can design their countertop in a myriad of styles; all for standard prices and short turnarounds.

Our standard options include classical edge profiles (rolled bullnoses and beads) and ornamental stamped banding for counters 2” and deeper. Raised marine edges are standard on any stamped edges and optional with classical edges. We have a selection of ornamental motifs that can be run on edges from 2″ to 6″ in depth. And just like the rest of our product lines, the sky is the limit when it comes to customization.

Countertop pricing

Our countertops are priced between $150 and $240 per square foot, depending on the metal and finish; and our edge pricing falls between $50 and $200 per linear foot of edging, depending on the depth, the intricacy of patterning, and the difficulty of the weld. Totalling up to $400 per linear foot, our handcrafted pewter countertops are not for everyone. However, homeowners, private chefs, and kitchen connoisseurs who use these works of art everyday find themselves falling in love with the warm smooth feel and the ever-changing patina of living metal in the kitchen.

About our countertops:

  • Pewter and other alloys containing copper are naturally antibacterial, making them a perfect choice for kitchen use.
  • Our countertops are built using only lead-free metals that are safe for use as a food preparation surface.
  • Pewter and zinc are soft metals that develop a natural patina over time. Most owners of these countertops appreciate this patina, as it adds to the uniqueness and living feel of the metal. However, the countertops can be polished with a thin coat of beeswax to keep it glossy.
  • We build our countertops over a custom-built wood frame which is as easy to install as any conventional countertop.
  • We use 1/16″ thick sheets of metal to cover our countertops, which is more than enough for everyday kitchen wear and tear. However, as these are soft metals, they are susceptible to marks and dents if used as cutting surfaces or if hot cookware is placed directly on the countertop.
  • Minor stains or discolorations are easily removed with a gentle soap and a sponge or cheesecloth.
