About 3D rendering file formats

We know it is much easier to plan something as complex as the design of your kitchen if you can see it from all angles, so we are working to make all of our range hood models available as 3-dimensional models which you can download into popular 3-D rendering programs. For now, our models are only available in the 18″ tall by 48″ wide size, and the handpainted finish is not reflected in the models, but you can still download them into a virtual model of your kitchen (if you have one), move them around, and try different shapes, patterns, and finishes to see what you like. Our other dimensions and finishes will be available soon.

All of our models will be available in 2 of the most popular file formats for 3-dimensional graphics: .skp and .dwg, which we have determined reflect the needs of the majority of home users as well as professional designers.

.skp - Google SketchUp and Google Earth
Google’s free Sketchup software is easy to use for the beginner, and robust enough for complex design rendering. Our .skp files will download directly into either Sketchup or Google Earth, if you have them installed. Some appliance manufacturers have already begun to make models of their appliances available as sketchup models, which you can typically download from Google’s 3d Warehouse and model your kitchen based on existing component models.

.dwg - CAD-based rendering software
CAD-based programs, by contrast, are typically the choice of professional designers. Since the AutoCAD DWG format is the defacto file standard in architecture and construction, we are also making our models available in DWG format. This format can be imported into all CAD-based software, from off-the-shelf programs like Kitchen 3D Design to top-of-the-line architectural design software such as 20-20 Technologies.
